THE FOUR HOUSES

Yosulgung Houses each represent a different aptitude; Imugi represents the mind and favors scholars; Samjogo represents the body and favors creators; Holangi represents the heart and favors protectors; Daltokki represents the soul and favors idealists. Your aptitude can be thought of as the natural tendency of your personality, while your subtype is more specific.

IMUGI - I THINK

Imugi are intelligent, independent and determined. They are high-achievers, driven not only to acquire but also to master large amounts of information. They are self-sufficient, logical and value reason. They seek to know everything and will question anything. Their keen interest in investigation makes them great researchers and inventors.

SUBTYPES
TYPE I. The Commander
Commander Imugis are natural and decisive leaders. They are analytical, efficient and hard working. They live in the world of ideas and have a great ability to debate. Their goal-oriented and self-confident nature enables them to take charge. They thrive on achievement.
TYPE II. The Architect
The Imugi Architect is private, independent and self-confident. They strive for perfection and achievement. They are gifted strategists with analytical, conceptual and objective minds. They are flexible and like to formulate contingency plans. Architect Imugis are able to see the reasons behind things.
TYPE III. The Debater
Debaters are innovative, flexible and see endless possibilities. They are enthusiastic about the ideas they generate. They are inventive, intellectually quick and skilled. They thrive at finding solutions to technical problems. They are gifted at coming up with new approaches.
TYPE IIII. The Logician
Logician Imugis are easygoing yet private. They are logical and enjoy analyzing complex problems. They thrive on the theoretical and like to figure out how things work. They do not like rigid rules and often do not abide by them. They are independent intellectuals.


DORMITORIES

Carved into the steep mountainside, hidden from view by a secret waterfall entrance near White Deer Lake. Rooms are cozy, but the caverns are quite vast and labyrinthine with tall ceilings. Don't get lost in there. Students are warned not to touch the glowing petroglyphs.

Symbol
According to legend, the Imugi is a monster serpent that must survive one thousand years in order to become a fully fledged dragon. It is said that all dragons were once Imugi that caught a falling star and realized their wish. They are powerful nature spirits, associated with bodies of water and rain storms.

SAMJOGO - I CREATE

Samjogo are naturally artistic, brave and adaptable. They appreciate the beauty in nature, fashion and decoration. Their adventurous nature makes them excitable, energetic and spontaneous. Driven by their curiosity and playfulness, Samjogo are willing to try almost anything. They are likable and popular, and they love to tell a good story.

SUBTYPES
TYPE I. The Entrepreneur
Samjogo Entrepreneurs live in the "here and now." Their strength lies in their ability to persuade others and get things done. They are enthusiastic and lively. They think on their feet and thrive in crisis situations. The rush that risk-taking situations produce is very appealing to the Persuader. This Samjogo is straightforward, realistic and takes criticism well.
TYPE II. The Virtuoso
Samjogo Virtuoso are adventurous and independent. They are fearless and thrive on challenging situations. They are gifted problem solvers. Their mechanical and technical nature enables them to operate many kinds of tools and instruments. They are proud of their relatively effortless ability to acquire many skills. They seek freedom and are typically unemotional.
TYPE III. The Entertainer
Samjogo Entertainers are fun-loving and outgoing. They seek an audience to listen to their stories and adventures. They love being the center of attention. They are people-oriented and dislike being alone. Their harmonious and lively nature makes these Samjogo popular and very likeable. They enjoy action, new experiences and a life filled with excitement.
TYPE IIII. The Adventurer
The Samjogo Adventurer live in the present and yearn for freedom. They are artistic, aesthetically inclined and sensitive. They are happiest when they are being creative and expressing themselves. They are loyal, warm and private. Samjogo Adventurer are cooperative and adaptable. They seek the balance between closeness and independence.


DORMITORIES

Hidden in Hwansang Forest, behind a door at the base of an 800-year-old tree. The Samjogo dorms are bigger on the inside than on the outside (in fact, the west branch houses a small library) with rustic treetop rooms, skylights and leafy views. Students are reminded that while the old tree is slow to anger, it retaliates if mistreated.



Symbol
The legend of Samjogo narrates the story of a bird with three legs believed to live on the sun, or to symbolize the sun, descending from the heavens to guide humans. The Phoenix and the Dragon may be worshipped, but the Samjogo is considered the most powerful of the three.

HOLANGI - I PROTECT

Holangi are dependable, altruistic and honest. They are driven by a strict work ethic and place a high premium on helping others and serving the community. Holangi are gifted leaders because of their natural ability to organize, plan and strategize. They thrive in situations where they know what is expected. They appreciate rules and structure.

SUBTYPES
TYPE I. The Overseer
The Overseer Holangi are responsible and hard working. Tradition and loyalty are deeply valued by them. As quintessential leaders, they provide structure and high standards to followers. When making decisions, they rely on logic and facts. They are efficient and thrive on routine and stability.
TYPE II. The Logistician
Holangi Logisticians have a keen sense of right and wrong. They are responsible, dependable and loyal. As gifted administrators, they value thoroughness, integrity and honesty. They are practical and believe that work comes before play. Logistician types always have a plan and are prepared.
TYPE III. The Consul
Consuls are friendly and nurturing. They seek to preserve tradition and observe rules. They are deeply caring and want to be liked. Their caretaking nature is one of their hallmarks. They are supportive and generous. Holangi Consuls have a desire to please and help others.
TYPE IIII. The Defender
Defender students are kind, loyal and considerate. They desire to serve and protect others sacrificially. They serve behind the scenes without seeking recognition. Defender Holangi like routine and have excellent follow-through skills. They possess rich inner lives, are private and quietly friendly.


DORMITORIES

Constructed inside a five-storied pagoda, across from the Drakeling Keep. The tower features classic gradual tiered eaves and contains a series of staircases. Holangi common room is on the first floor, the second and third floors contain the boys' and girls' dormitories respectively, while the fourth floor offers space for training and study, as well as panoramic views over the palace. Access to the fifth floor is strictly forbidden.

Symbol
The Holangi—white tiger—is the national symbol of South Korea, an icon of myth and culture. Among many things, the Holangi is seen as a guardian, a symbol of courage and absolute power that drives away evil.

DALTOKKI - I ENVISION

Daltokki are empathetic, generous and original. They are caring individuals who are not only sensitive to the feelings of others but also very adept at identifying them. They are idealistic and are driven by values they deeply believe in and defend. Daltokki desire to understand themselves and to be understood for who they really are.

SUBTYPES
TYPE I. The Mentor
Daltokki Mentors are driven by their desire to help others reach their fullest potential. They are affectionate, charismatic and deeply caring. Mentor Daltokki feel called to enrich the world with their altruistic contributions. They are often called upon to help others in times of need.
TYPE II. The Advocate
Advocates are enthusiastic, expressive and charismatic leaders. They are spontaneous, wild and posses a great zest for life. Advocate Daltokki are dreamers. They are driven by their values and strive to champion the causes they believe in. They are resourceful, visionary and creative.
TYPE III. The Confidant
Confidants are complex, deep and intensely private. Their life’s mission is to develop and guide others. Personal growth drives them and anything short of that pursuit is meaningless to them. They are passionate about the causes they believe in. Daltokki Confidants live their life with a sense of purpose.
TYPE IIII. The Dreamer
Daltokki Dreamers are idealistic and deeply sensitive. They are characterized by their loyal and gentle nature. Beneath their easygoing disposition runs a passion for the causes they believe in and the people they selflessly care for. They are driven by their values and seek peace.


DORMITORIES

Located in a two-story pavilion, surrounded by water and picturesque parks. Features ornamental lattice work on sliding doors, low tables, and lush beautifully quilted beddings. The elevated wooden patio opens to the gardens and a charming fish pond. Students are instructed not to converse with their reflection in the pond.


Symbol
A mythological hare on the moon, known as daltokki, can be seen pounding ingredients for rice cakes with a pestle and mortar. According to legend, the rabbit gave its life for The Old Man on the Moon, who in turn immortalized the rabbit as thanks for its selflessness. Both the rabbit and the full moon symbolize virtue, a long life and prosperity.
