TRIP ADVISOR

Did your scroll finally arrive? Planning ahead, or perhaps last minute? Worry not, here you'll find all you need to know about getting to the Island as well as what you might encounter during your stay.

Location
About 64km off the southern tip of the Korean peninsula, less than two hours to Jeju airport with muggle plane from Seoul—certainly faster by way of wizard transportation, although we don't recommend flying with Dragonhead Airships during moonsoon season. Portkeys or the Floo Network in your city can provide fast and reliable transportation into Halla Town.

Weather
Jeju is temperate to humid, with fairly mild winters and muggy to rainy summers. Spring and autumn are transitional periods, moderate and pleasant, especially the month of October. The mountain presents a lush green face during the summer season, brilliant displays of azaleas and other flowers in the spring, rich autumn leaves in the fall, and a stunning snow cap during the winter.

BESTIARY

Spectacular volcanic scenery, waterfalls, mountains, forests, caves, superb beaches and mild weather have made Jeju a favoured destination for muggle tourists and honeymooners from East Asia. Below is an inconclusive compendium of fantastic beasts and where to find them.

White Deer
As the name implies, White Deer Lake is home to a sub-species of white deer commonly seen ghosting near the lakewater. Although not much else is known about them, these mystical ghosts of the lake are at the center of ancient legends and folklore.

Imugi
The elusive Imugi occupies the deepest recesses of White Deer Lake. Observations of the creature are not unheard of, especially when the White Deer are out and the Imugi emerges to feed. Every year it seems at least one student from Imugi house has a harrowing tale of the Imugi attempting to make a Faustian bargain with them.

Drakeling
While owls are a staple of the wizarding community everywhere, Jeju Island's magic settlers have for centuries been using drakelings to deliver post. This practice emerged naturally, as wizards and drakelings were both lonely neighbors atop the mountain, resulting in a number of individuals becoming domesticated.

As the initial few grew into a colony, a drakeling keep was constructed on the premises to house, study and care for them. Drakelings are intelligent creatures with distinct personalities, capable of bonding closely with their human companions. Although roughly the size of a Barred Owl, they are perhaps surprisingly closer to a house cat than wild bird in disposition. Some wizards may find them easier to care for than owls.

FLORA

Fantastic trees and where to find them.

Nutmeg Tree
The nutmeg bears small, fragrant yellow flowers closely followed by a peach-like fruit which splits and falls from the tree when ripe. The yellow skin can be used to make jams and jellies. The bright red covering around the seed is laid out to dry and used to make mace, while the seed itself must be cracked and then grated to produce spice.

A whole nutmeg seed can be carried to bring luck during all games of chance. An old Creole spell also suggests that sprinkling nutmeg in your crush's shoe at midnight will encourage them to fall madly in love with you.

Korean Fir
A species of fir native to the higher mountains of South Korea, including Jeju Island. It forms a compact pyramid of steel-blue needles and purple cones, creating a lovely contrast against the foliage.

Fir resin can be used to "seal" a spell, or as a fixative for any magical craft. The trees symbolize immortality, taking the long view and seeing situations clearly.
